Study basic principles of design such as line, shape, value, texture, and form, as well as principles of proportion, perspective, and composition.
Drawing pencils (2h, hb, 2b - sometimes they come in larger sets which is fine). Any brand will do.
Sketchpad (something around 9.5 x 11 or even a little larger).
A drawing board with clips.
Kneaded eraser
Pink pearl eraser (or even just a regular eraser on the bottom of a pencil - just something rather stiff to be able to erase well)
Ruler or straight edge Something longer than a pencil to measure with (a skinny knitting needle, a dowel, skewer, etc).
Xacto knife (or any hobby knife)
Medium grit sandpaper - or sanding block
