Description

Students will learn the basics of playing the banjo using the three finger picking style made famous by Earl Scruggs (no prior music background needed).

"Banjo Maintenance" is a required class that must be taken before this course.

You must purchase "Bluegrass Banjo Basics - by Dennis Caplinger" before the class starts. This is the primary textbook we will be using throughout the class.

Beginning Banjo (Bluegrass - Scruggs Style) will teach you the fundamentals of playing the banjo:
  • How to read sheet music.
  • How to read Tablature.
  • How to analyze and memorize sheet music/tablature
  • How to use a Metronome
  • How to hold the Banjo
  • Left hand placement and Fretting Notes
  • Right hand placement and how to pick
  • The Pinch and rolls (the secret to playing the banjo)
  • Pull-offs, hammer-ons, and slides
  • Playing backup in a band/group setting
  • Students must bring their own Banjo
